The EIBA Fellows decided for the five year period from 2005-2009 (the issue will be reviewed in 2009) to elect one individual as a Distinguished Honorary Fellow of the Year. This individual would be from any one of four possible ‘camps’ of distinction as follows:
-
Deans of Schools who have made a substantial contribution to the development of IB studies.
-
Business leaders.
-
Distinguished scholars who, although not members of EIBA, by their writings have considerably influenced the thinking of IB researchers.
-
Leading figures in (or formerly holding leading roles in) international public and non-governmental organisations, such as the WTO or UN.
Ideally s/he will be a European or have worked on European related business issues, but s/he would not necessarily be a citizen of the country in which EIBA holds its annual meeting.
The recipient of the Distinguished Honorary Fellowship will be asked to give a short talk at the gala dinner of the EIBA Annual Conference. The EIBA Fellows will offer the elected Honorary Fellow a small token of their acknowledgement of his or her distinction, such as a book token (in addition to a plaque).
The first Distinguished EIBA Honorary Fellow Award was handed over in 2005 to Jorma OLLILA, Chairman of Nokia.
The second Distinguished EIBA Honorary Fellow Award was handed over in 2006 to Karl SAUVANT, Director of UNCTAD.
The third Distinguished EIBA Honorary Fellow Award was handed over in 2007 to DeAnne JULIUS, Chairman of the Chatham House.
The fourth Distinguished EIBA Honorary Fellow Award was handed over in 2008 to Eli HURVITZ, CEO of TEVA Company.
